QUALIFICATION PROCESS
FIRST ROUND
World Classic Open Powerlifting Champions in the calendar year prior to the Event, who total at least 95% of the classic open world record total for their division, reflecting IPF records as of the day before the relevant World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships.
SECOND ROUND
The top performing athlete placing second in their division at the IPF World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships in the calendar year prior to the event, ranked according to the percentage of the classic open world record total for their division, who total at least 95% of the classic open world record total for their division, reflecting IPF records as of the day before the relevant World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships.
THIRD ROUND
For each IPF region so far unrepresented in the selection, the top performing athlete from that region in the IPF World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships in the calendar year prior to the Event, ranked according to the percentage of the classic open world record total for their division, conditional on totalling at least 95% of the classic open world record total for their division, reflecting IPF records as of the day before the relevant World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships. If the third round selection results in a selection of greater than ten athletes, then the top performing third round selections, ranked according to the percentage of the classic open world record total for their division, will be selected for the remaining slots to reach a total of ten.
FOURTH ROUND
If there are less than ten athletes selected after the third round, then:
The top performing athletes at the IPF World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships in the calendar year prior to the Event, ranked according to the percentage of the classic open world record total for their division, reflecting IPF records as of the day before the relevant World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships, will be selected for the remaining slots to reach a total of ten.
WILD CARDS
The remaining two athletes and any reserve athletes will be selected by SBD.
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY
Competed in an IPF World or Regional Classic Powerlifting event.
Currently in good standing with their national IPF Affiliate, the IPF, SBD, and the Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
No prior anti-doping offences warranting a ban of more than one year.
SCORING AND PRIZE ALLOCATION
Sheffield was created to showcase the stars of our sport and offer a platform to break records. The allocation of our prize fund supports this vision.
• Total prize fund £445,000
• Potential maximum an individual can win: £45,000
• World records on squat, bench, deadlift and total: £5,000
The overall title and placings will be determined by how each lifter performs, compared with the world record total in each lifter’s class.
For example, if lifter A totals 580kg in the 63kg class, with a world record total of 557.5kg, they will receive a score of 104% If lifter B totals 630kg in the 69kg class, with a world record total of 600kg, they will receive a score of 105%, and will be ranked higher than lifter A.
Totals at Sheffield will be ranked relative to the IPF classic open world records totals as of the day before the event.
